Consider This - The Fall of Michael Tait
In case you haven’t heard yet, Michael Tait, famously known for the Newsboys, has just been the subject of a big story over on The Roys Report. I’m not going to rehash the whole story, but just sum it up here - it has been revealed that he was engaged in multiple sexual assaults on other guys allegedly and there were drugs and alcohol involved. If you want to read the rest, you can click here.
I have no commentary on this situation, except to say that it’s all very sad and I’m glad the truth allegedly is finally coming out.
I have a unique perspective on the Christian media world which also includes music. In the past I’ve interviewed many luminaries, including Amy Grant, Twila Paris, Mercy Me, folks from Hillsong, Jamie Grace, Kim Hill, First Call, Cheri Keaggy, Michele Pillar, John Schlitt from Petra and others. There are quite a few and here’s what I know for a fact, there has always been rumors about worldly things happening within the CCM world.
In fact, out of all the folks I just listed, Amy Grant, was the first interview I did in Christian music. Like many others in my age group, I’ll be 57 in a few months, these are the people that “we grew up with”. Life happens and the whole music world evolved.
I remember the days of Christian book stores and going in to listen to the tapes before I bought the tape.
So, it is with a lot of sadness that I saw the news about Michael Tait. I had the blessing of going to the opening premier of God’s Not Dead and I got to interview David A.R. White (now divorced) and Kevin Sorbo. The song became a hit and so did the movie.
My hope and prayer is that the alleged victims of Michael Tait will be completely healed and my prayer is also that Tait will be healed too.
God didn’t create humans to be worshipped and. yet that is all Christian media does. It’s deceptive, fueled by money, false teaching and more. Jesus pretty much gets lost within the industry.
Ask me how I know this.
Go ahead.
Because if it bleeds it leads. Because if it’s gossip it gets read. Because if it’s about something that tantalizes your flesh, it’s seen, heard, shared and valued.
But don’t be talking about that Jesus guy and who He is or what He did for us. That’s so old fashioned.
Sorry, I’m old fashioned. Consider this.
